Mountainside Retreat

Terrace Downs – New Build

Area : 210 square metres

Architect : Richard Ormsby – X Design

This family high-country retreat on 640 squares was carefully positioned for optimal views
to Mount Hutt and the Rakaia Gorge valley. Outdoor living has been enhanced year-round
by the important additions of a fireplace and pizza oven on the decking. A luxurious spa
also overlooks a nearby tarn, a visual wonderland in winter months. Inside, the living area features cathedral ceilings and large architectural windows. A minimal, sleek kitchen adds to the appeal of this fuss-free, spacious escape from city life.

Remarks from the builder
“A dedicated team of three spent ten months in route between Christchurch and Terrace Downs in order to complete the project. During summer there were plenty of twelve-hour days. Our carpenters led by Ash were keen to make up timewise for Covid lockdown delays and weather complications. The roof was constructed on the ground and craned into place during a calm spell. We timed this to coincide with craning into position the home’s structural steel components. Ash enjoyed creating the pre-cast concrete-panel fire and pizza oven, plus managing to complete the build on time for our clients.”
